GIGAJOULE

A single gigajoule is equal to almost 300 kilowatt hours of power. Translating that into reality, about 10 gigajoules would be sufficient to make all your "hot water" used in a year. Or, on average, it is estimated that a person in the United States consumes about 350 gigajoules of total energy per year, or about a gigajoule/day. In terms of gasoline equivalents, a gigajoule is equal to about 7.5 gallons of crude oil. In even simpler terms, it takes about 1 kilo of hydrogen to be equivalent to a gallon of gasoline. which contains about 0.12 gigajoules of energy. Or seen from a different perspective, a gigajoule is about 20 lbs of hydrogen. That infamous barrel of crude oil is equal to about 6 gigajoules, which is about 1.7 megawatt-hours of energy. And if you can count that high, the total annual worldwide energy "consumption" (howsoever-fuzzy it is defined) is supposed to be about 500 BILLION GIGAJOULES (475 exajoules). That is about 100 gigajoules per every person on earth, every year.

That is, the world today needs only about 1,000 kilos of hydrogen per year for every person on earth... no big deal. It can be done. If each person could make, on his own, only TWO gigajoules/week of hydrogen, in his own back yard, using FREE environmental energy sources (wind/sun)...... the world would be a VERY different place.

If wind is used to generate electricity and then that is used to generate hydrogen, today that process costs about $6 per equivalent gallon of gasoline. That, today, seems way too expensive as a process for generating energy to be sold to gas stations to fill fuel cell powered cars by the gallon. However, if the cost of the capital equipment to generate and store that "fuel" was also an integral part of the cost of the vehicle that uses the fuel, and IF the process is operated by the very same owner of the vehicle, using "free" wind and sun, then a new energy/transportation paradigm is more than possible, AND it becomes World-Wide practical by the middle of this century. That will take us to the 22nd century without nuclear wars or economic Armageddon. GIGMEDIA CONSULTING knows how to get to the 22nd century. The future changes everything.
